Used for thousand of years, acupuncture offers a well-established approach to treating issues affecting our physical health and mental wellbeing.
It is based on the principle that health and wellbeing can be achieved by tapping into our natural healing mechanisms, rather than suppressing a condition or symptom. Harnessing this natural in-built intelligence allows both body and mind to normalise functions across body systems, including cardiovascular, digestive, endocrine, immune, integumentary, lymphatic, muscular, nervous, reproductive, respiratory, skeletal and urinary. An acupuncture treatment also draws on the idea that physical health and emotional wellbeing are closely connected, therefore providing a truly holistic treatment, as explained in my recent articles.
Acupuncture can help with many, even rare and poorly understood health conditions. Get in touch to discuss your particular situation.

Your first session is an extended appointment and includes a full consultation to discuss your main concern, day-to-day health and medical history; a traditional Eastern Medicine diagnosis, using techniques such as pulse taking and tongue diagnosis; and a first acupuncture treatment. A follow-up appointment provides an opportunity to review progress and use this to deliver a more targeted treatment.
During each treatment and based on your individual diagnosis, specific points on the surface of the skin, known as acupoints are selected and stimulated. The acupoints are located on channels that run along the face and body, and are used to access an energetic flow, known as Qi and to also encourage circulation and blood flow, in order to regulate and balance your system and to improve cell renewal and the release of cell secretions.
The treatment may additionally involve, if appropriate, the use of ‘moxa’, a dried herb which is heated directly on the skin, or nearby, to warm the acupoint and enhance the effectiveness of the treatment. Other techniques such as gua-sha, auriculotherapy (ear seeds) or kinesio-taping may be used to further support the treatments.

The exact number of acupuncture treatments required will vary from person to person, the severity of the condition, or how long you have been suffering with it. Usually, around five treatments spaced weekly will be recommended to improve effectiveness and get the results you want sooner. A package of ten sessions is also available for when a more extensive treatment plan may be needed, including for longer-term wellness; women's health; and for chronic pain management & recovery.
Many people choose to carry on having a treatment monthly or every 6-8 weeks, to maintain results, to help address issues as they arise or as ‘preventative medicine’ to support general health and wellbeing.
